Collar Training With Dogtra | Dog Training In German

Collar Training With Dogtradog training

Having a Dogtra dog training collar may be the most popular method of dog training and i also am helping the elderly who may have a difficult time controlling their dog on account of shoulder problems to utilize the electronic collars for dogs.

The Remote back of the shirt or previously proven to many as being a shock collar is now an undesirable rap eventually by some people due to the misinformation and misuse in the product in training.

In truth, these kinds of collars are among the most humane and positive solutions to train your canine without fear and possible harm to their neck due to yanking. However, as with any training tool or machine it is possible to put it to use right and wrong. Prior to start using a dog collar you should discover the correct strategy to work with it.

In reality the right way to work with the dog training collar involves pain free towards dog. There can be three buttons to be used around the transmitter. You will find theres vibration only button that triggers the collar to vibrate comparable to a cellular phone. A lightweight button giving a momentary flick of static shock plus a constant button that continually emits the static shock to get a amount of about 20 seconds.

There are numbers of stimulation from 0-100 along with a dial to create the correction.

The exact stimulation emitted from the collar is static electricity like you would feel whenever you rub the feet across a carpeted floor and touch a door knob something like that metal.

The ideal using the collar involves setting the collar training level in your dogs volume of sensitivity plus an area where your pet just notices a vibration with the collar.

Things to know about the collar would it be affords the ability if you have muscle or shoulder problems to utilize their dog as opposed to pulling on the leash.

Black Dog Syndrome A Bad Rap | Dog Training Agility

Black Dog Syndrome A Bad Rapdog training

Hi Mia & Julie –

Firstly, thanks so much for letting me drop a verse in the rap song of your blog! I feel so awesome being featured. It’s like being Lil Wayne or something. Anyway…

I’m just recently back from ISAZ 2013, where I had a most excellent time chatting with other anthrozoologist-y types.

As you know, I just graduated from the Anthrozoology Master’s Program at Canisius College, so I was uber-excited to have a chance to share my research with colleagues in the field. ISAZ did not disappoint.

Pauleen Bennett & Heather at ISAZ 2013
Now I get to share with you two and it just gets better and better! :-)

My master’s thesis research project (advised by the oh-so-awesome Christy Hoffman) looked to answer the question: “Does Black Dog Syndrome Exist?

Animal welfare folks are probably familiar with the concept of Black Dog Syndrome (BDS) that Julie introduced last week: it’s the idea that dogs with black coats have a harder time than other dogs getting adopted, and as a result, may face higher rates of euthanasia and longer stays in adoption programs

Popular media - but is it correct?
A lot of popular media articles focus on this concept (like here, here, here and here) but the research results have been mixed: in a study published earlier this year, participants rated an image of a black dog as significantly less agreeable, less conscientious, and less emotionally stable than a yellow dog (Fratkin & Baker, 2013). Yet research into factors influencing shelter dogs’ lengths of stay (LOS) found that LOS was not significantly correlated with coat color (Brown, Davidson, & Zuefle, 2013; Protopopova, Gilmour, Weiss, Shen, & Wynne, 2012).

To dig deeper into the questions of whether potential adopters discriminate against black dogs in a shelter and whether black dog discrimination is reflected in shelter stats, I conducted a two-part research project:

Shelter Visitor Pilot Study – examined interaction between potential adopters and shelter dogs

Shelter Data Analysis Study – investigated relationships between LOS and coat color, age, sex and breed, as well as the impact of these variables on likelihood of euthanasia

And what I found may surprise you.
There was very little evidence to support the concept of Black Dog Syndrome!

From Heathers ISAZ 2013 poster

I know animal shelter workers are going “WHAT!?” right now – I know because I AM a shelter worker – but the truth is, even if many potential adopters come to the shelter with a negative bias toward black dogs, it’s not resulting in crazy-long shelter stays or greater risk of euthanasia for black dogs. In fact, according to analysis of shelter statistics, black dogs were adopted out faster than average at both shelters in my study. Black dogs were also less likely than expected to be euthanized (good news for black dogs, eh?).

When shelter visitors video-recorded their walk through the adoption area, I found that they spent about equal amounts of time looking at every dog, regardless of coat color. Visitors also rarely made specific comments with regards to coat color, although one guy did say: “I like black. Black dogs are cute.” Interactions like petting or feeding dogs also occurred as frequently between visitors and black dogs compared to dogs of other coat colors.

Still, I can’t deny that a few different studies show that people rate images of black dogs more negatively than other colored dogs. That being so, can I really say there’s no such thing as Black Dog Syndrome? Well, I think there’s evidence for a negative bias against black coats when viewing still images of dogs of different coat colors. However, this bias just isn’t impacting the adoption rates or in-person interactions with black shelter dogs. Granted, my video study sample was very small – it was a pilot study, after all – but the shelter stats were quite clear (and my sample there included 16,000+ individual dogs).

So, yes, I’m saying Black Dog Syndrome ain’t no thang. Like, really, it’s not a thing.

But I certainly am open to the idea of a Black Dog Bias, and I think that’s the next step for this type of research – teasing out whether preconceptions are truly influencing adoption decisions.

My head’s swimming with ideas about how to do this and if anyone is working/has worked on this kind of research, I’d love to hear from them!

Thank you ladies for giving me the mic.
Now picture me dropping it on the floor without a care.
Svo. Out.

No really, you two are super RAD. Keep doin’ what you’re doin’!
And thank you for letting me be a part of it.

DANGEROUS FOODS FOR YOUR DOG | Dog Training Made Easy Video

DANGEROUS FOODS FOR YOUR DOGdog training

A lot of us are guilty of giving in to those big begging brown eyes.  Before you do, consider whether what you are giving is healthy or dangerous for your dog.  Many foods can be very dangerous to your pooch.

Most people know chocolate is bad for dogs.  It can cause vomiting, diarrhea, tremors, seizures, and possible death.

Grapes and raisins which have often been used as treats for dogs can cause kidney failure.  If you think your dog may have gotten into some, repeated vomiting is an early sign.  The best prevention is to keep them away.

Ive heard of many people sharing their ice cream with their beloved pooches.  Although they may love it at the moment, later they will definitely not appreciate the stomach upset and diarrhea which stems from the milk or any milk-based products.

Raw meat and raw fish can contain bacteria that causes food poisoning.  Also there are some fish which contain a parasite that causes fish disease, and if untreated can be fatal.  Symptoms are vomiting, fever and enlarged lymph nodes.  Cooking your fish sufficiently will kill the parasite and protect your dog.

Bones as well as fat trimmed scraps, both cooked and uncooked are both dangerous.  Bones can splinter and cause a laceration or obstruction of the digestive system.  Meat fat can cause pancreatitis in dogs.

Onions and garlic in all forms can destroy a dogs red blood cells, leading to anemia.  Symptoms of anemia include vomiting, breathlessness, dullness, weakness, and decreased interest in food.  Even eating small amounts regularly can cause poisoning.

Macadamia nuts can be fatal to a dog.  Symptoms of poisoning include weakness or paralysis of the hindquarters, muscle tremors, vomiting, increased heart rate.

Xylitol which can be found in candy, gum, baked goods, and some sugar substitute items is highly toxic to dogs, causing low blood sugar, seizures, liver failure and possible death.

This is just a few of the dangerous foods to be aware of for your dog.  For a more extensive list see http://www.humanesociety.org/animals/resources/tips/foods_poisonous_to_pets.html and think carefully before giving handouts to those big begging eyes.

Try saving a dog, they may not be puppies but their cute and they NEED homes.
Before you buy from a breeder or a pet store,
Take a trip to the local animal shelter.

A dog in the pet store gets fed each day and bathed,
and cared for.
They can live in the store for years if needed.

However the pets in the animal shelter are put to sleep after 30 days (sometimes less than 10 days)

Be a hero and save some poor puppies life,
I bet they even have a bulldog there!

Clicker Dog Training Is Best For Your Dogdog training

by Katia Lorenzen

Clicker dog training works best for your dog. Give the command to your dog. He executes it perfectly. Clicker sound. Give him his reward. Give another command and your dog performs excellently. Click. Another reward for your dog.

It is amazing to see how dogs learn easily the tricks that are being taught them using proper obedience training without resorting to any form of violence or hurt. When your dog hears your voice, he would be willing to follow whatever you tell him to do. There is really no need to hurt your dog. The sound of a click is enough in training your dog.

Once upon a time, dog obedience training was not very peaceful. Trainers used collars, bits, and other things that brought harm to dogs just so they can impose their will on the dogs.

The dogs then had no choice but to obey. But their obedience was rooted in fear and without that fear, they barely obey their masters. Because of years of subservience, however, these dogs learned to accept their fate and simply let their human masters have their way.

Good thing though, there arose a new breed of trainers who did not use violence. They discovered the use of the plastic clicker. This way, clicker dog training became popular.

The new breed of trainers loved their dogs so much that they winced every time they see a dog in pain because of electric shock. This prevented them from using electric shock. Instead, they had to rely on the gadget called the clicking device to make the dog realize that they only want to have fun with them and enjoy what they are doing. The dogs were also elated because every time they execute a good trick, goodies are being given to them. Not a bad way of obedience training and spending their time.

This training using the plastic clicker is quite easy to follow. Clicker training helps trainers condition the minds of the animals that if they do something correctly, they will get a reward for it. As such, every time that the clicking device produces a sound, the dog will then know that something is up and that they will receive a reward soon after. With the help of a clicker, the dog can easily learn the tricks and maneuvers and he will not be harmed along the process.

So effective is clicker dog training that dogs are not the only animals being trained with this. In fact, dolphins can easily recognize the click and implement the tricks in different water parks. Pigeons are also being trained using the plastic clicker so that they can deliver messages. The bond between the trainer and the dog is so important that violence and harm should not come between them. With the use of a clicker, the obedience training certainly becomes more peaceful and more enjoyable for both the trainer and the dog.

If you are thinking of a training process for you dogs, why not research more about the clicker and try practicing with your dog. With clicker dog training, you can even become more attached together.

Dogs are social animals and they become wild, if they are not trained properly. Theyre pack animals - like most humans, they thrive as part of a group. Theyre loyal and playful and just fun to be around. By providing Dog obedience training you can improve your dogs behavior, as it mends your dog with a good mental exercise by enabling healthier and happier dog with more freedom. Is your dog destroying your household things or making your house dirty by urinating everywhere or disturbing your neighbors? Then, its time for your dog to undergo Dog obedience training. This training may not put an end to all the bad behavior of your dog, but can solve most of them.

Effective communication is the important skill required for training in order to make your dog obey your commands, such as

1.Sit - Training a dog to sit when instructed is an important part of the training process.

2.No - Teaching a dog the NO command lets the dog know instantly what it should not do.

3.Stay- By training the dog to follow the Stay command helps the owner to take control of the dog.

In the process of training, you always need to praise your dog instead of punishing it. Usually they respond excellently to positive dog training than negative. Keeping all these in mind you will be able to teach your dog all the three basic and best commands.

Once your dog is done with this part of the training, then you can teach the command come. Tell your dog to come once it has stayed for some time at the same place. Have a happy voice and pat your knee as you say Come. After receiving response from your dog for this particular command,you may reward it immediately.

Remember that if you reward your dog for its good behavior the learning will be faster. It is equally important to admire your dog. Obedience training sessions should always be short and constant as a dogs mind is not stable and it changes from time to time, so constant training is always a best idea.

Does my dog need a diet | Dog Watch Training Video

Does my dog need a dietdog training

Does my dog need a diet

Have you taken a good look at your dog lately? Is he/she overweight? I know its hard not giving them treats, leftovers, and too much food. But just like us, being overweight is dangerous for any dog, especially the bigger and the very small breeds.

And if they dont get a good amount of exercise, too much weight can put a lot of pressure on their hearts. A good brisk walk a couple times a day is good for you and youre dog. Couch potato dogs are never a good thing health wise. We all need a little calorie burning exercise everyday to keep that weight down.

You can still give your dog treats and food. You just need to make sure its got good healthy nutritional content rather than fat and sugar. Most of the commercial dog treats sold have little nutrition and mostly sugar and byproducts. Not a good thing for your favorite pet.

Dont believe me? Take a look at the label next time you go to buy some dog treats. If the contents have corn syrup, artificial colors (dye), and multiple preservative chemicals then all you have is junk food. This applies to your regular dog food too. Dogs dont need byproducts filler, corn syrup, artificial coloring, and a bunch of chemicals to make it stay fresh

A lot of dogs have medical problems due to over eating and too much good tasting but low nutrition food. Dogs dont know any better, Im fairly certain my dog would eat rocks if I put a little corn syrup and artificial flavoring on them. Its up to us to try and provide a nutritious diet to our dogs. And limit the amount of food they consume everyday.

There are some high end (read expensive) healthy commercial dog treats available. Check the price per ounce and Ill bet youll be surprised at the high cost. You could probably buy your dog some of the best cuts of meat for the price you pay for those special treats.

So whats a good solution? Well, you can pay those high prices for the commercial healthy dog treats, thats one way. Or you can make your own dog treats with some simple ingredients that provide the right amount of nutrition and taste good too. Heres a real easy and quick recipe:

Healthy Dog Biscuits

* 2 3/4 cups whole wheat flour

* 1/2 cup powdered milk 1

* teaspoon salt

* 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder

* 1 egg

* 6 tablespoons vegetable oil

* 8 tablespoons water --(8 to 10)

* 2 jars of Baby food, Meat, Beef, Strained -- *Note: Strain. Use beef, chicken or lamb

Mix all ingredients together and knead for 3 min. Roll out to `/1 inch thick. Use a dog bone shaped cookie cutter, and place biscuits on an un-greased baking sheet. Bake in preheated oven at 350 degrees for 20 to 25 min., makes approximately 2 dozen dog biscuits.

You can also be very selective in what you give your dog as leftovers. High protein and low in fat leftovers are fine. A dog does need some fat, just like we do for a well balanced diet. A steak or roast bone is good, just dont smother it in gravy and include the cut off fat you didnt want to eat. Vegetables are good too, they provide the vitamins and minerals necessary for good nutrition. Avoid giving your dog gravy, butter, trimmed fat of any kind, cookies and dessert items, and fried foods in general.

Limit their amount of dog food each day to the recommended amounts by weight of your dog. Dont leave food out for constant munching. Give them enough food to provide good nutrition each day but dont let them eat all day long or whenever they want.

Your dog will be healthier, have fewer medical problems, and live longer with a good nutritious diet. Clean and fresh water and daily exercise will keep them in good shape too. And theres a good chance youll save money on vet bills too.

Charlie Just another black dog | Dog Training Waukesha

Charlie Just another black dogdog training

My husband and I found each other a year and a half ago, sharing many interests and passions, including our deepest passion--our love for animals.

I knew that there were plenty of unwanted dogs at the shelters, and I told my husband that we should go to the shelter and let one find us.

We headed out to the Animal Humane Society in Golden Valley, MN, and walking through the shelters cages, we were greeted by a barrage of excited and anxious dogs barking in every cage, every cage but one. Surrounded by several dogs who were barking and growling territorially at each other was "Richard", a little black lab mix curled up in the back of his cage. I leaned down to his level and called out his name. His breathing was labored and his movement was slow, but gentle and willing. He wagged his tail and licked our fingers, staring at us with his dull yet gentle, hopeful eyes. It was just moments before I knew he was our dog, and my husband quickly agreed.

It was evident that "Richard", now named Charlie, had lived a rough life full of neglect and abuse. He came to the shelter with kennel cough, worms, scarred legs and shattered teeth from being kicked or chewing his way out of a concrete cage.

He stole our hearts, and is now nothing like that sickly, brownish, tired dog we saw before. He loves to go to training, give "hugs", sleep on his three beds, and go on long walks. He is the happiest, most well-behaved dog most people have met, despite his experiences. His companions are our rescued rabbit and blind foster dog, never to know suffering again for as long as he lives. He is not "just another black dog."

Choosing the Right Dog Breed Its About Matching Two Lifestyles | Dog Training Cesar Millan

Choosing the Right Dog Breed Its About Matching Two Lifestylesdog training

When you are in the market for a dog, there are more considerations that must be taken than temperament. Choosing the right dog breed is important for many reasons, because it can give you an idea of what size pet you will be able to deal with, what type of temperament you are looking at, eating habits, and your ability to train them. Different dog breeds have different personality types and characteristics and although it is not fair to pick and choose based on these generalizations, deciding on the dog breed that you do want can certainly help to narrow down your selection a great deal.

If You Have Kids...

If you have small kids in the home, you may not want to go with any breed of dog that is going to grow up and be a miniature giant. Dogs are only puppies for a short time, and that is not the case with kids. Although they may be babies together for a while, dogs grow fast and will soon be able to overpower your little one, not to say that they will. Some of the gentlest dogs in the world are bigger than most people, but if you cant handle the size you just cant handle the size.

If You Need Protection...

If you are one of those people who live alone and are looking to get a dog for protection, it is important to go about choosing the right dog breed well. Some dogs are naturally more territorial and protective than other dogs are, and that can help you to narrow your selection. If you need security, a poodle or a golden retriever are not going to do well at all. Consider a Pit Bull, a Great Dane, a German Shepherd, or another larger dog breed. While these breeds are really only rumored to be ferocious, they are visually intimidating to many people and that is more than most people have as far as canine security is concerned.

If You Need Companionship...

If companionship is all you seek when choosing the right dog breed for you, the decision is a bit harder. This is because there are so many great breeds for you to choose from, so decide what type of sized pet you would like and work with that. That can help you to narrow down your selection so that you can start meeting little guys to join your family. Poodles, terriers, big dogs, little dogs, medium sized dogs-if you dont have any specific need for a pet other than companionship you have a bigger market for pets than you might have thought possible. Really, the only thing holding you back is your budget.

There are so many ways to go about choosing the right dog breed for your family. What you may find works best is this process of elimination. There are so many great dogs out there that need homes, so choosing the right dog breed that best clicks with your living arrangements should be the most important decision you make.
